The Clinical Functions of the Mirror Neuron System
Ko Kwang-Mun

Terrance L. Stocker
Abstract
A mirror neuron is a neuron that fires when an animal acts and also when an animal observes the same action performed by another animal. Indeed, newborn macaques will imitate facial expression, such as sticking out the tongue, of humans. The following survey will define some of the areas in which MNS research has been conducted. Technically, MNS research is still in its infancy, yet many scientists consider mirror neurons one of the most important recent discoveries in neuroscience. Strategies inspired by mirror neuron research recently have been used in the clinical fields like the treatment of autism and the motor rehabilitation after stroke.
